Southaven Police Say Missing 17-Year-Old Mother and Her 11-Month-Old Son Were Found Safe After Public Search Across Desoto County and Memphis Area
SOUTHAVEN, MS — A missing 17-year-old Southaven mother and her 11-month-old son have been found safe, according to the Southaven Police Department.
Police posted the update Tuesday afternoon, saying Shana Warren and her son, Jacob Warren, had been “safely located.” The department thanked the public for helping spread the word after asking residents to watch for the pair in the days before. Officers did not say where the two were found, and the update did not include any details about the circumstances. No charges were mentioned.
Police had been looking for Shana Warren since Oct. 3
The department’s earlier alert said Warren was reported missing on Oct. 3 at about 2:30 p.m. Police said she had been taking an Uber to the area of North Watkins Street and Whitney Avenue in Memphis when she was last known to be traveling.
Investigators described her as a white female, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 185 pounds, with black hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. Police also said they believed she was with her infant son, who was then reported missing with her.
Jacob Warren was also included in the missing-person alert
Authorities said 11-month-old Jacob Warren was last seen wearing a striped shirt and blue shorts. The original notice asked anyone with information to contact Southaven investigators or send an email tip.
The Tuesday update replaced that request with confirmation that both mother and child had been located. Police did not say whether they had been found together or separately, and they did not identify any person or place connected to the recovery. The department’s public statement focused only on the safe outcome.
Police credited the public for sharing the alert quickly
Southaven police thanked the public for its help, echoing the role social media often plays in missing-person cases. Local agencies across DeSoto County regularly rely on residents to pass along alerts, share descriptions and keep an eye out for people who may be at risk.
In this case, the department’s update suggested that public attention helped move the search toward a safe resolution. Police did not describe any specific tip or say whether one led directly to the pair being found, but the department’s wording made clear it appreciated the community response.
Second missing-juvenile alert for Southaven in recent days
The case is the second missing-juvenile alert Southaven police have issued in recent days. Earlier this month, the department also asked for help finding a missing 14-year-old.
That pattern shows how often local officers must turn to the public when a young person disappears. Missing-person calls involving children and teenagers typically draw fast attention because quick reporting and accurate descriptions can matter in the first hours after someone is last seen.
How residents can contact Southaven police with future tips
Even though this case is now resolved, Southaven police listed the same contact information for future tips. Residents can call the department at 662-393-8652 or email [email protected].
For emergencies, police say to call 911. They also note that there is no waiting period before reporting someone missing. Officers recommend having a recent photo, a clothing description and details about where the person was last seen and who they may have been with.
DeSoto County News said it would update the story if police release more information.
