Hawaiʻi Island Police Seek Missing 43-Year-Old Volcano Man Last Seen Thursday on Kaleponi Road in Fern Forest Subdivision, Asking Public for Help Locating William Moxley

September 30, 2026Seth McKillop Standard

VOLCANO, HI — Hawaiʻi Island police are asking the public to help find 43-year-old William Moxley, who was last seen in Volcano on Thursday morning. Officers say he was observed around 8 a.m. on Kaleponi Road in the Fern Forest subdivision.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department says Moxley’s disappearance is being handled by Puna Patrol. Anyone with information about where he may be should contact police at the department’s non-emergency number.

Last known sighting was on Kaleponi Road in Fern Forest

Police say Moxley was last seen on Sept. 3, 2026, at about 8 a.m. in the Fern Forest subdivision, a neighborhood in Volcano on Hawaiʻi Island. Investigators identified the road where he was seen as Kaleponi Road.

No additional details were released about the circumstances of his disappearance or where he may have been headed. The department has not said whether investigators have received any confirmed leads.

The public appeal focuses on finding information that could help officers narrow down his movements after that last sighting.

Police describe Moxley’s appearance and physical characteristics

The department described Moxley as a 43-year-old man with a fair complexion. Police say he is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs roughly 200 pounds.

He is also described as having brown hair and blue eyes. Those details are intended to help residents and visitors recognize him if they have seen him in the area or elsewhere on the island.

Police did not release any information about what clothing he was wearing when he was last seen.

Puna Patrol and Officer Conrad Bidal are handling the case

The missing-person case is being handled through the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Puna Patrol. The department identified Officer Conrad Bidal in connection with the investigation.

Police have issued only a brief public notice so far, centered on identifying Moxley’s location and gathering any tips from people who may have seen him. No further case details were provided in the department notice.

That kind of early-stage public outreach is common in missing-person investigations, when officers want to cast a wider net quickly after a last confirmed sighting.

How to contact Hawaiʻi Island police with information

Anyone with information about Moxley’s whereabouts is asked to call the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311. Police are seeking any tip, no matter how small, that could help locate him.

The department’s notice did not include any alternative contact methods or updates about the next steps in the search. At this point, the focus remains on collecting leads from the public.

Residents who may have seen Moxley near Volcano, Fern Forest or elsewhere on Hawaiʻi Island are being urged to share what they know with police.

What the department has released so far about the case

The public notice identifies the missing man by name and provides a report number: 26-075006. It also ties the case to the Hawaiʻi Police Department.

So far, police have not said why Moxley was in the Fern Forest area, how long he may have been missing before the public notice was released, or whether family members reported concerns. Those questions were not addressed in the department’s statement.

For now, the investigation appears to be centered on the last known sighting and the appeal for anyone with firsthand information to come forward.
